Championing Oil and Gas Training and Research in Ghana

Overview and history

The Department of Petroleum Engineering, KNUST is the trailblazer in oil and gas training and research in Ghana. Discussions with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) for a Petroleum Engineering program began in 2001 in anticipation of Ghana's oil discovery. The program admitted its first batch of BSc Petroleum Engineering students in 2004/2005, and by 2008/2009, the initial graduates were employed by GNPC and esteemed international oil service companies. Since then, the Department has produced over 1500 graduates, many of whom hold key positions and contribute significantly to the local and global oil and gas industry. Our alumni are actively engaged with reputable oil and gas companies, showcasing the Department's impactful legacy.
